New and Recent Development

Marina's 30th year of incorporation will be the beginning of dynamic opportunity and growth for this young city. The redevelopment projects at the former Fort Ord which fall within the borders of Marina at Monterey Bay and other developments within our northern boundary will provide our city with projected growth that will include:

Our city expects a dramatic enhancement of our overall economic base, cultural resources, and recreational facilities; replacement of jobs lost through the Fort Ord closure, increases in our housing diversity, and vibrant new retail experiences. We are developing our own unique sense of place among the communities of the Monterey Bay Crescent.

University Village is a mixed use village center with retail components of approximately 750,000 square feet, office/research uses of approximately 760,000 square feet, parks and open space, public facility uses, as well as 1,237 new residential units and up to 500 new hotel rooms, with supporting convention and public spaces, on approximately 430 acres within the southwestern portion of the City of Marina.

East Garrison Village

East Garrison Village is a 244-acre development just next door to Marina. Based on "smart growth" development principles, this new community will include affordable housing, walkable streets, a town center, and a cultural arts district.

The Draft Specific Plan envisions 1,400 housing units and 300,000 sq. ft. of commercial space to be built in three phases over the next 20 years.

Marina Station is a Creekbridge Homes development, with plans for 1400+ residential units, 142,000 square feet of commercial space, and 830,000 square feet of business park and industrial space.

Marina Heights, located on 248 acres, will provide five new neighborhood areas, nearly 36 acres of new parks, greenbelts and open space, and 1,050 new housing units including single-family homes, town homes and cottages phased over the next ten year.
